Do you hear that to? Hoo! Hoo! Ahh! Ahh! I think we are in the world of chimpanzees. All the chimps swinging from tall jungle tree to tree. The slick, smooth, black haired animals these are chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are amazing in so many ways in the world of chimpanzees you learn about just a few of them. Join me in learning about the acrobatics of the jungle chimpanzees.

Chimps’ social order is very unique. When a female chimp turns ten they can uneffectively mate. When they turn thirteen they can become pregnant. The dominant male gets any female he wants (Greenberg). Challenges are very dangerous, if you lose you get kicked out of the tribe. Chimps can grow to 40 years old. A chimp mother will always focus on the youngest child. The mom will not come running when the older child calls (Greenberg).

Chimps have a very complex social life. Chimps are very much like humans. Each chimp community can have anywhere from 15 to 100 chimps in it. Chimpanzees get diseases like polio and AIDS (Greenberg). Chimps have close cousins called bonobos. Chimps are less successful in colonizing than other animals. Chimps communicate simply. The tools they make and use are extremely crude (Greenberg).

Chimps eat a large variety of food. Chimps mainly eat bananas, berries, and other fruit. Chimps also eat insects, eggs, and sometimes meat. Chimps will steal kills from baboons. After they get a kill there is a lot of scrambling and begging to get some food (Greenberg). When they make a certain pant-hoot means that they got a kill. There prey is British pigs, monkeys, and bats. Chimps make a twig tool to put in a termite nest so that they eat termites off the stick(Greenberg). Chimps use tools to get ants honey and other food as well.

The Bili apes is one very cool legend. They myth about “bili apes” comes from Congo Africa (Greenberg). The myth started with a Belgian officer when someone found a gorilla skull that did not look like a gorilla in the 1900s. The skull was from Bili in Congo. They were interested in a new species of gorilla. In 2004 some researchers went to a Bili forest to explore. They found chimpanzees which were different than other species of monkeys. They were bigger and behaved differently like gorillas. Some chimps nest on the ground (Greenberg). They eventually just put them as a new class of monkey the chimpanzees.

Chimpanzees have a surprisingly good language. Chimps communicate displeasure by grunting and flicking. Chimps say hello by panting. They laugh while playing or tickling (Save the Chimps). Chimpanzees communicate vocalization gestures, body postures, and facial expressions. They communicate by drumming the buttresses of trees. There are 30 calls that chimps use such as, fear is communicated by Uraa!, enjoyment is communicated by smacking their lips, and they communicate distress with Hoo!(Save the Chimps).

These creatures have amazing language, hunting skills, myths, and culture. These amazing guys and gals have been swinging from tree to tree and it is just who they are. It is time for us to face it no one not even humans can stop chimpanzees from being the wonderful chimpanzees that they are. Now leave the world of chimpanzees with me I had a wonderful time I hope you did to.
